Nah small business is the work horse of the economy, the problem is they are always at risk and though many will come and go there will always be room for the budding entrepreneur. Granted this is a huge international forum and taking that into consideration there are different laws in place that make it more difficult for small business in some countries.

I think there will always be room for small businesses. Some may die off because of the always changing economy, but that opens room for other new small businesses.

There will always be plenty of small businesses, even in times of recession there are opportunities for emerging niche's. Also small niche businesses can often change fater and respond to market trends faster than the big boys, so in some cases avod the impact of the credit crunch, or at least minimise it's impact.

It’s hard you find something you can do with a small business and if there is any money in it before to long the big guys are all over it and have it automated and are doing it for cheaper then you can.

Gotta try to stay ahead and get to things before the big guys pick them up.

Why would small businesses cease to exist in a few years?

Might want to research on just how many small businesses exist. ;)

Every big business is dependent upon an array of small businesses that completes the vertical integration of the business model. So it is only that the current businesses may dry up but an equal number of opportunities would be created on the different horizon. Its more a matter of moduling oneself to change.

Saying small businesses will cease to exist is effectively saying that no new businesses will be created. Today, there is a lot of fragmentation in markets caused by both global competition & the internet...that means it's probably easier to start a small business than ever before as more fragmentation = less monopoly.

All businesses start out small. Some stay small. Some die. Some go on to become the Microsofts of tomorrow.

Conditions for businesses may change, but there will always be opportunities for small businesses to flourish as long as the leadership and expertise is there. I'm pretty thankful for being an entrepreneur in today's world :)

small businesses will always exist. How do you think these large companies got to be so huge? Because they took over small businesses who were doing the something right and then funneled more money into the business to make it more efficient and cost effective. It is becoming harder and harder (at least where I live) to gain enough capital to start your own business but there will always be someone out there with a dollar and a dream.

There will be small businesses, but a few successful ones. Only those who can beat the big ones at their own game. Rest will continue to exist.

Small businesses will always thrive. There really are an unlimited amount of extremely vertical markets that the big corporations ignore altogether or simply cannot provide the solution.

You’re right, it’s obvious to anyone paying attention that our system as currently setup and operated, is simply not sustainable, even mainstream America can no longer deny the obvious signs that something’s gone wrong.

Skyrocketing fuel costs, unprecedented inflation in food prices, rampant epidemics of preventable degenerative disease, declining real estate prices, an increasingly-worthless national currency, disastrous war failures, rampant dishonesty in Washington, and accelerating climate changes that are causing flooding, crop failures, droughts and worse.

It’s becoming difficult for even the Pollyanna's of the world to argue that America has a bright future. But alls not lost, there’s a single, devoiced mom out there who started a company with integrity and ethics, who’s changing the lives of countless others trying to live the true American Dream.

I know because I’m one who’s benefiting from her efforts and you can too. She’s gotten a bad rap from some of the skeptics out there but, don’t believe the hype.

I believe that the key to having a good business is (SERVICE).If you look after your clients they will always stay with you. That is something The big stores lack in now, its all about the bottom dollar it has nothing to do with service,So the answer to your question yes the big stores are taking over but people will eventually get frustrated with the lack of service and look for the smaller businesses that can give great SERVICE.
