    I don't understand how that happened though. Isn't the satellite in space? how is the insect only in that 1 spot?

    I didn't know that Google's satellite maps involved a film scanning process. I thought the satellites took digital images of sections of the Earth's surface and then these were "stitched" together to form the maps.

    Apparently the photo in question was a printed photo that was then scanned into a computer (probably using an automated process).
