my system is an old one
    IBM 2.6 Ghz
    512 ram
    40 hard

it was doing just fine but from some time it runs slow like when i minimize a window or close it, it drops like a water fall slowelly and some times it litterelly halts and shows a massage "windows explorer not responding"

it happens specially when i use fire fox

    any idea what,s wrong

i know it,s not a registry problem then what?

Sounds like you are running out of memory (RAM). Firefox is a good browser but it does have one annoying problem - memory leak. So when you use FF, over time it will slowly begin to use more and more memory until, especially when it is very limited in the first place, there is none available, then your computer kind of grinds to a halt.

Is there an easy way to free up RAM... without closing the browser itself?

    Regards,

Not that I know of. If you click the link in my post above, the Mozilla article offers a few suggestions about how to try to prevent it but in my experience the only way to sort it out is to close the browser now and again to reset the memory use down to something workable. The highest I've ever let mine get to was 800k before I remembered I needed to free up some memory.

install a software called soluto it gives u the boot information i.e. which process took how much time to load (in sec)... you can delay or pause the process if required.

and the best part is the software is a freeware

You may have programs that aren't needed. Check your processes tab and find out what's taking up a lot of space.

Increase your RAM, do a registry clean, and perhaps switch browsers (Chrome is pretty nice)

Primarily it's your RAM....But if you don't want to add to it then ...

I recommend using ASC (Advanced System Care) You can get it free on
CNET. It will maximize all your available resources.

It's simple to use and has an easy interface.

You also want to Defrag and use the Windows System Tools very often.

    Hope this helps.

Try to clear the TEMP files , some time it may be the reason for IE slowness .
