Slow Server or is My Site Bad - What to do?

    Hey All,

I recently started up an ecom store running on opencart. I am on a semi dedicated VPS and feel the site is very slow and so is the admin area of the site. Images take long to load when I need to assign them to products and generally the admin area is slugish. This happens when I load up my images and products. I have about 4000. The question is - What type of server should I be on? I don't really believe that the tech support guys know what it is like to be on the "I own and pay rent for this" part of the stick so they will yes me just to go onto the next que. Or so I feel. Everything they suggested thus far has not worked. I also don't want to throw money into the wind and purchase server space I will not need.

My goal is to have a fast and efficient admin and allow clients to go onto the site with minimal frustration. It hurts when guys have the same type of site and it takes me seconds to load versus mine which is just too slow.

Is the front end loading fast? If so, your users shouldn't have any issues, provided you're the only admin. VPS hosting should be better for you, but it seems that in your case it doesn't do the job properly when it comes to the admin section. Can you provide a link to the site? We could see if the store is loading OK for us or if you have any theme issues that might contribute to this.

Try finding the logs of mysql and apache. It will help you to identify the problem. Sometime, there might be a problem of too many connections opened with mysql server. There are ways to sort it out in coding and configurations as well. Just get the logs and attach it here, so that we can take a look at it.

Contact your hosting company and report the problem.
