I have a very fast internet connection, the site loads up in reasonable time on my machine.

The only way to speed up the load time is to remove the Javascript navigation bar. I would recommend using CSS like Loco.M suggests or doing without the dynamic menu alltogether.

Fireworks does very good drop-down menus.

it loads ok to me as well, but i have a few suggestions if you don't mind.

    - you might want to line up the google search image with the search input box (unless you have a reason why you want to do it the way you have now then please ignore this)
    - i think you don't need your footer with the same links as the left side, rather, put a back to top link if you will have contents that will make users scroll down like you have now, though i see huge empty spaces for now

    Hope that helps,
