It's probably just the fact that you're running Vista. It's much slower and more of a resource hog that XP was.

How slow is the folder to open, how many seconds?

Wow, even Vista isn't that slow. How many mb/gb worth of files does the folder contain?

My laptop have the same specs as yours, but I don't face this kind of problem when using Vista. Try to login in Safe Mode and see if the problem still happen.

Since you don't install anything yet on the system, try reinstalling the OS. If the problem stay, then send it back to the service center.

    1. Clean your registry
    2. Defragment your harddisk
    3. Run a virus scan
    4. disable unnecessary startup items
    5. Uninstall unnecessary software
    6. Finally uninstall Vista LOL

Try either Windows XP or Windows 7 coz Vista is really slow and it sucks with it's speed. Go for Windows 7 Ultimate. I also have slow folder opening problem in my PC.
