Slow economy could be GOOD for eBay?

Had a thought the other day... I'm going to sell a few items to raise money during the economic slowdown/help pay bills and I thought that maybe a lot of people around the country will be doing this over the next few months.

If so..this could be good for eBay and good for those of us who use BANS or do other stuff with CJ/ebay.

    Crazy thought or what? :D

You know how they say: Don't buy when everyone else's buying and don't sell when everyone else's selling.

I think the cool thing, since everyone will be selling trying to make an extra buck, will be to buy cheap as much stuff as you can. And resell it later for a whole lot more.

Taking that thought a little further ...if everyone is selling in the market place that increases supply..but if demand is constant or even lower (bad economy less cash) then the prices of whatever your selling will drop...and if it becomes a general trend on ebay then we'd get lower commissions since besides leads ebay pays you a percentage of final value fees.

So your theory could work even with those factors if there are actually more people also shopping on ebay..higher sales volume will offset lower per unit commission. But with the bad economy it is a possibility more people will consider buying on ebay to save a few bucks just like more people selling to earn a few bucks....

It's eBay Economics, Stupid! By Richard Harris Smith (2006)

"When I see auction sales declining and the number of determined buyers steadily decreasing, it suggests that casual eBay users, who are not obsessive collectors, have dropped out of the market because they have more important things on which to spend their limited resources - such as gasoline and housing and food. And because the luxury of collecting is one of the first things to suffer in an economic downturn, an eBay decline may offer warning that larger economic disaster may be on the horizon."

I don't understand that guy's logic. eBay goes far beyond selling collectibles. I mean, FAR, far beyond it.
