Hi, My computer is very slow System Configuration is OS windows XP SP3 Ram 1GB HDD !60GB 72000 Motherboard INTEL 945 Processor 2 DUO Core 2.2 But it very slow I am not able to run 2 program together Suppose I want to play song and copy some items from CD i can not Help any one
Try to give your computer a full format and then reinstall XP. But do not install any extra softwares that might take ram
Using msconfig, remove any unnecessary programs that run at startup, to free some ram. (Start/Run/msconfig) Make your swap file contiguous: - From the Start Menu, right-click on My Computer and select Properties - Click the Advanced tab, and press the Settings button in the Performance section. - Click on the Advanced tab again, then press the Change button. - Give Initial size and Maximum size the same value. 1Gb ram is short for Windows XP. I firmly suggest you buy 1 more Gb at least.
If you don't want to do any complicated stuff, just create a new account, move over files, and delete your old one. Speed should function as normal. A temporary fix, but if you do it once a month you're computer should run very smoothly.
I suggest trying the disk defragmenter program that comes with xp. I use it once a month to reduce fragmentation. I also used CCleaner and Regseeker. The former to get rid of all those temp files that windows generated, which I used almost daily before I shut down my PC. The latter clean the windows registry which I used about once a month too. Just google them to find their download sites. Both are freeware. stephen
Ram and The Processor are the two things that makes a computer fast when doing multiple tasks. All the tips given above are helpful to make your system perform good. Try removing softwares which are not used by you. And if you have Norton or McAfee anit virus then please remove them for a better anit- virus. Norton and McAfee really makes pc slow on the startup.
Have you tried to defrag? That sometimes happens to me Go to Start->Run->CMD then type in defrag c: -a if it is above 10% then i would defrag, you type in defrag c: -f and you are good hope that helps
Speed issue probably isn't down to MS, XP or SP3 - your system should be powerfull enough to run more than 1 app at a time. Check your CPU usage, is a single process using up the CPU? Have you got AV installed? If so is it running well or is it using lots of CPU? If not install some and do a full scan - make sure there isn't any 'naughty' software using up your resources. If on reboot your system memory use is more than 500MB used check your startup programs, if you've got a thousand and one things loading on startup look at what is running and see if there is anything running that isn't needed - all startup processes and services use RAM and can use CPU time. PC's tend to slow down when to much 'junk' software is running - image your a rock climber, if you only take what you need you'll be able to climb high and fast, however if you have lots of little items attached to you weighing you down you won't be able to climb so fast or high - the same with computers - if your only running what you need and your computer is in good shape (e.g. you've defragged the drive, removed any additional 'bulk' software etc...) you will be able to run lots of programs at the same time. Also check your fans - a dead fan can cause havock with computer speeds.
heard a lots of complaint about xp with sp3, you should downgrade it to sp2 by formatig it. Or use windows 7 its much better.
I know from experience that when you burn a cd/dvd you computer will be very slow even if you open a small program like winamp. Unless you have over 2Gb Ram.
