The value of facebook is the brand, not the domain. They could have called it anything, and it still would be worth billions.

You are correct! A brand is what holds the value.

If the owner was smart, he'd acquire the singular form...it would also go in the millions, unless he uses an amazing negotiator to get it in the upper 6-figures.

That is incredible, makes me wish I was around when domain buying was at its infancy.

Yeah, I remember way back in the early 1990's when you would have had no problem registering domains such as television.com, newyork.com, etc. etc. Who would have thought that domains would have become such a great investment!

Great deal. Gambling related domain names are always very expensive.

My bad... I was not even very familiar with the internet then... leave alone figuring out to buy and invest in a domain name! :(

Well, I was familiar with the net way back then, and in looking at some businesses online, I remember seeing a lot of quality domains available, but at the time I never needed domains like pizza.com or california.com - I just never thought I would have any use for them. :)

That is the problem with majority of us. We never care to look ahead... far far into the future and instead focus too much attention on short term goals and ambitions! :(

    You are totally right!

Back then there were no such thing as domaining - domains being sold at millions of dollars! So, who cared about it? I know, I for one was more concerned about building a great website - where we made use of frontpage when you struggled with some htm coding. There was no PHP and fancy features.

With all that said, who knew that a website would become so popular that it would have been sold for millions, let alone a domain name alone becoming worth millions.

It was quite difficult predicting the future back then.

Spare a thought for people who did have foresight and had bought several such domains... only to sell them few years later at 10 times the price. They would be banging their heads... looking at the transaction prices of today!

    Good price for the domain.

Who actually bought it? Like what company?

But brands made out of nothing first. They are being developed over times. So, If one is lucky with their currently own domain name, who knows domain like jhkajhsjuhsd.com can be a brand and famous domain and worth 5.5 M, ya? :)
