What is the best way to go about slicing a psd, png to html / css?

    Special programs geared toward this?

I am more a developer and novice to design aspects.

You don't necessarily need to use the slice tool. I find saving a backup of my Photoshop file then cropping each image out one by one works the best. I never could get to grips with slicing.

I always use the marquee & crop tools in photoshop, you can make sure everything is pixel perfect that way :)
