sleeping processes

    Tasks: 1727 total, 16 running, 1707 sleeping, 0 stopped, 4 zombie


    i think the number of sleeping processes are too great which is causing my server to crash and have extreme loads.

    can u please recommend what might be causing the problem?

    What are you hosting? 1700+ processes is a lot to start with, 1700+ sleeping is weird. I would like to check on your server if you allow me ; I am curious about this. I will tell you what the problem is after I have checked; please PM me if you want.

    i am hosting normal proxies. the traffic i normal but recently server load as well as processes are shooting up

    Post your httpd.conf (specifically the MaxClients, KeepAlive settings, etc).

    You blocking China? I had a lot of proxy issues, started to look, and I was being flooded with Chinese visitors who had a perpensity to download GB's of porn. You can most of China by adding the following iptables rules :


    -A INPUT -s 222.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 -j DROP
    -A INPUT -s 221.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 -j DROP
    -A INPUT -s 220.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 -j DROP
    -A INPUT -s 219.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 -j DROP
    -A INPUT -s 218.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 -j DROP
    -A INPUT -s 203.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 -j DROP
