Hi Everyone, I'd like to ask if you can please review my website. First of all... What is it? Slavery Report is a non-profit organization (Non-profit status still pending) which utilizes a website platform to maximize and streamline reporting human trafficking globally. While we operate inside the United States, we know whom to contact if any need arises to make reports overseas. Using the MyBB platform and specifically the XThreads plugin, we are capable of producing dynamic and useful forms and thread features. I have also created a mobile app which allows for mobile reporting (at some point in the future we hope to make this a native app -- but currently we simply can't afford the costs for such a platform). Why is it? Slavery Report has been a dream of mine since late 2009, and has HUGE goals. We're starting off small, and I realize we have a great deal of room to grow and improve, especially with our website and capabilities. Being a Navy Veteran, during my active duty years I heard horror stories of fellow sailors being called "MISSING IN ACTION" or "MIA" after being kidnapped and NEVER seen again in foreign ports. Two, three...even four sailors at a time. At the time I had never even heard of such a thing, and as I probed deeper I knew to myself that something HAD to be done to stop this....therefore, Slavery Report was created and I've been working with it ever sense. How Does it work? A person witnesses either the action of kidnapping, trafficking, or forced services and/or labor snaps a few pictures with their cell phone or camera, and makes a report on our website. Specifics are included in the reports, and when done so reports are then investigated upon. The more cooperation by the reportee the better we are at collaborating vital data. The information is then shared with mutliple anti-human trafficking organizations and coordination is taken place to contact local authorities and get the right people involved. All agencies are contacted simultaneously with the same information and informed of each other's involvement. Agencies are free to conduct their own investigations but encouraged to share data with the other agencies, as some may have resources that others don't. Who does all the work? Right now it's just me. I own the website, I own the hosting, it all comes out of pocket as we don't currently have any active donators or funding, I do the graphics, the coding, the security, the whole nine. I do have help here and there from outside sources, but I pretty much do everything I can to make sure that this website stays tip top. We also have a facebook page with over 1,000 likes, a mobile app for Android, Apple, and Amazon including tablets. Every week or so I try to add something new just to keep it alive, but not overwhelming. I would like to ask if you can please take a look at it, review it, tell me what's great about it, what's horrible about it, how I can improve it, and what other resources I can use for it. My current problems are as so: 1. Logo. I made the logo with macromedia fireworks, it's supposed to animate but I have no idea how to make a png animate, and turning it into an animated gif looks absolutely horrid. 2. Text and link coloring. I've recently changed the layout and look and feel of the site, and as a result some of the text needs to be adjusted to look more uniform and create better visibility. 3. The XThreads are in a separate database table, and therefore are not accepted by any mobile themes, so that has to be done manually. Even mybb mobile doesn't display the reports correctly. 4. The mobile app isn't native, and yet still costs me $33 a month to produce. I really don't have too many users so I might have to drop back down to the free basic version for now. Thank you, I look forward to your detailed reviews! Links are below http://www.slaveryreport.com/ <--- Website http://slaveryreport.mobapp.at/ <--- Mobile App (through conduit) Thank you! -ZuFu
I took a quick look...here are my immediate thoughts: Overall, a rather dark site...I don't know if that's intentional because of the "dark" subject matter The logo needs more thought...I'd go in a different direction with it (I could help you out there...PM me if you wish) My eyes were flickering going thru a few pages due to the background which provide a bit of an optical illusion when spending more than a minute or two on the page It needs to be brightened up, in general...text, table header bars, site background Text is a bit tiny for my eyes One suggestion...instead of a mobile app you may opt for a responsive design for the site itself (I did not look at the mobile app, however) Good luck
Thank you Vagz. I actually did have the site very bright before. The reasoning behind being darker is because, in certain situations, when a person is being held captive and is able to access a computer, the last thing they need is for the screen to be so bright that they be caught. In addition, someone who is being kept in the dark will find the website very difficult to read in emergency situations, due to their eyes needing to adjust to a bright screen. As far as the graphics, that'd be AWESOME. I'm a graphics designer myself but I haven't done this stuff for years so I've gotten extremely rusty. But a good logo would be awesome . The background image can certainly be changed. I had a hard time finding that one though, so let me see what I can do and I'll get back to you.
