Oh, you are Alek from Watching Paint Dry I'm one of the guys that gave you a link As to Slashdot, I'm thinking in submitting a story, but only to a site that I know that can't be exploited, or with a script server intensive.
I guess so. I stopped actively seeking out links and link exchanges for the site nearly a year ago. I may be wrong, but within a week or two of getting on slashdot the site started getting enough search engine traffic that it was making real money. Is slashdot a "must have" link like DMOZ once was? I don't think so. If you've got a great story and they publish it, excellent. If not, spend your time building a better site not chasing a slashdotting.
Then just forget about it, Slashdot really is a niche market for a limited audience. There are plenty of other places that can give you links that are as just, or more, valuable than slashdot.
One good thing about Slashdot is it is one heck of a stress test of your web server (and any underlying code you have written) - survive that and you'll be in good shape for the "normal" masses.
