Skyscraper image ads vs. text ads

If anyone uses the Image ads like the skyscraper versus normal text ads? How was your click through rate with these? I am thinking of switching over to this type, but I have to believe they aren't quite as targeted.

I avoid image ads like the pest. Shitty CTR, compared to text ads anyway.

Image ads do scream "I am an advert" unlike the text ones so text ones get more clicks so I would go with Text rather than images.

Same here, I've seen some improvement by doing away with my image ads...and it makes my sites look nicer too.

Yeah, I prefer the text ads, too. Some of the image ads are just, well, too out there. (There's an IM program that seems to hit my personal site a lot if I display images on it.) I think if your site is mostly text to begin with then the image ads can be jarring sometimes.

My skyscraper text ads don't perform that well, it's the leaderboard with rotating images that pull in the "lion's share." And as a blog, I just don't like having superfluous images that I have no control over.

You also have no control of the colors the image ad so sometimes (for me it's often) that means a really ugly ad that stands out like a sore thumb.
