Skype goes down globally again, Microsoft starts wondering if it bought wisely

Uh oh, Skype's experiencing its second big outage in the space of just a couple of weeks, as we're hearing reports from the UK, Netherlands, and yes, even Bulgaria, claiming the online communications service is down. Our own Skype clients are currently unable to move past the "Connecting..." status note, both on Mac OS X and Windows 7. While we've confirmed it in Europe, the issue seems to be affecting people all over the world. Nonetheless, Skype believes only "a small number" of us have been hampered by whatever's ailing it, and further details should be available soon.

I just saw this tweeted, it was kind of ironic because everyone was saying to me...
Microsoft purchased Skype, it's going to go down any second now!
I think they should merge Skype & Msn Messenger, although still keep both programs separately too, just in case it goes very wrong.

My skype was working fine last night was talking with friends but a friend of mine in Russia had a little trouble signing in, although once she got on there was no disruptions in the service.

If you ask me they made a bad investment. 8 billion + dollars, heck they could have made a new one from the ground up for that price. Even paid a few kids to make it for them for a fraction of that price. Time will tell, but I have a feeling it was not worth that much and a bad investment on their part.

I agree, I do think the money they paid for it is way too much. Although I do think that skype has a fantastic system. unmatched by anything really.

They paid for the brand. Brands cost lots of money.

Bad move on Microsoft's part. Like perviously stated, they could have easily made a competitor. No idea why they did this, to be honest.

Skype is such a great service, too bad they're not profitable (and yes, Microsoft bought all their debt as well). I hope in the long run it'll prove to be the right choice...

I have not noticed this problem because i just used my skype to call someone and it was pretty clear, i also log in and out at will. It will be a shame is skype goes down just because microsft bought it.

It takes 5 minutes or more to show which one of your contacts is signed in to his account. This problem started as soon as MS took over.

I'm in the UK, and I've never had problems with Skype. Skype is a great service, but I agree with most, definitely a terrible investment. Doesn't matter if it was the brand, they could have built it up from their own brand and probably have paid so much less.

Never had any downtime here in the UK either, reliability wise i thing its a fantastic service as most of the services are free so people cannot complain too much, some people have mentioned about the price that Microsoft payed for it,trust me they must have gone over the figures with a fine tooth comb and found out it will add value to the current microsoft sales directly and in-directly.

Some one made the comment that they could start up the same skype setup for a cheaper price that is maybe but if you go down that route you have to start from scratch visitors wise and its the visitors to the site that has cost microsoft the most part of the money,it sounds like alot of money but they are getting a massive amount of extra potential customers for microsoft products and services and that is what the venture was all about.
