Skype downhill?

Only recently I discovered that Skype was purchased by MS. However, I noticed some time back that after a certain update Skype would always stay on, despite my attempts to close the program. It left a sour taste in my mouth, since I don't run Skype 24/7 and it is basically using up memory. Having found out that MS bought Skype, it all clicked for me. Skype is extremely popular and useful right now, but is MS going to run it into the ground (like it started for me)?

As far as I know Skype is still separate application which you can install while downloading from their website. It is not bound with MS OS at all! Or maybe I understood your question wrong?

You're right, it is still separate. But from what I know, you can't exit the software in Windows 7. It simply gets minimized when you try to quit. I'm guessing it is by design, which is somewhat frustrating. Is MS going to package Skype with the future versions of Windows? I would think so. But given MS's history, do you feel that Skype is in safe hands?

In the bottom right of your screen there is a small white triangle, click on it.
After that, find the skype icon, right click it and terminate skype.

    Problem solved.

P.S: You could also terminate it through the task manager.
    [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc]

It is not attached to Ms but you can't exit from the windows. You can just minimize it and move on.

Well to be honest I use skype nearly every day, for atleast 5hours and have done for around a year.
before it was taken over, if my call dropped it would end straight away and you would have to wait until the connection was re-estblished to be able to call that person back.
but now it has this feature where it hangs/laggs the call behind when the connection is low, this means instead of being cut off you continue to be on the call but it's almost next to impossible to hear the other person until the connection becomes stronger again.
I really do like the new design of it all though, it looks good, a nice layout.

Ever since day one, Microsoft has been in the market of RAPING, and PILLAGING, and DESTROYING, and DISCARDING software. Skype is just another in a long line. IF Skype survives, it will become another buggy attractor of viruses and other malware.

Well, Windows 8 is almost coming about and it's still without Skype in its package:) I think it will not be profitable for Microsoft to integrate Skype to its main package:)

Microsoft will make its own program for voice chat sooner and much rather then including 3rd side proprietary software (Skype).

Although i think, already msn supports voice chat, not? Why would they put another software with same usage for competition inside windows package?

i was never using skype. not because microsoft or their earlier owners.
but it was always very proprietary software with not public source code and very strange.
even it can connect calls through your pc, take your bandwidth, without letting you know.

    - i think its ideal for microsooft :D but i will never use it again. i was just testing it earlier.
