http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/061023/enron_skilling.html?.v=31 24 years? That is way too long. I hate corperate fraud as much as the next guy but 24 years is far too long for this type of crime. I would say 8 years is enough time to repent but 24 is excessive. There are people who commit rape & murder who serve shorter sentences. it is not liek that much moeny was involved. Google is worth 140 billion..just 1/50 the market cap of that could voer the whole 'enron' fiasco. It is not like he sole billions; just 86 million.
You don't really think he will serve 24 years do you? It's like a 24 year sentence... but he'll be out in 3 years on good behavior.
24 years in a country club jail? tennis, golf, minimum security? only 6 plasma screen tvs. The horrors! fascist bastards. I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who commit a crime, sorry, man.
I think, with federal crimes, you have to serve out the sentence dont you? Or a good part of it? Martha was sentenced for how long and served it all, right?
I don't think you have to serve out the full sentence with federal crimes... Martha served her full one because it was short. You don't get out on good behavior when your sentence is measured in months. The paperwork and process to get out probably takes months in itself.
I have to say that this was my reaction when I heard the news, maybe its me being cynical but I think it really depends on who you rip off! If you rip off the poor, that seems acceptable. However if you dare to touch the pockets of the filthy rich - well you better not get caught.
Too bad he will miss the next Olympics in Beijing 2008 but he should be OK watching it on the holiday camp 24 hour live TV Broadcast No such problem for Olympics London 2012 he will be really fit by then after exercising at the holiday camp daily, and with his millions will be able to afford a top hotel to stay in London to ensure he can watch the games in 'real time' live. So the 'circus rolls on'
It won't be the 24 years he hates, it will be the moment he meets tyrone and his crew...the moment he's not an anal virgin and the moment he forced to toss salads (nope not the nutritious kind). Those reasons are why I don't commit crime. Oh well, buddy. You play the game, you pay the game.
Jeffrey Skilling has just been interviewed on CNN he said he is optimistic as he believes he is innocent Maybe he has been getting some coaching from OJ Or maybe he knows what will happen in all the appeals that will follow, to reduce the sentence, or even to get the 19 guilty counts reversed
Maybe you should watch the documentary "Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room." There were workers in Enron who had hundreds of thousands of dollars, who were ready to retire, and all of a sudden they lose everything over night. In addition to this, Enron was turning the power on and off in California.......keeping the people in the dark so they could earn a profit....I hope Jeff Skilling stays in prison for the full term.......corporate trash
He has also been told he has to turn his almost $50 million in assets over for restitution. Thousands have lost retirement because of this man's greed, let him rot.
You actually think 24 years was not enough? Would you be saying the same if you worked your whole life (over 30 years) for one company and have absolutely nothing to show for it? Regular workers like myself who struggle to get by were completely wiped out of their retirement packages. A lot of people were denied their retirement that they worked their whole life to get. I say that is worth 24 years to me.
