You want to be popular, the more popular you are, the more people will listen to what you have to say. That's how life in general is, and that's how life on twitter is. The more people that listen to you, the more people will be interested in what you are eventually “sellingâ€. Talk, listen, create a conversation. Be your best at the twitter party, if you are, you'll see the results faster than you think. Now, let me tell you six tips on how to get more followers on twitter. Twitter directories Start using various directories where other members can find you. For instance, twitpwr is a way to shorten your links and at the same time earn juice (you earn juice when people click on your links), the more juice, the more people will see your profile. At the moment, you need to be in the top 50 to be visible. Claim your twitter profile at twellow, and add 20 categories that will fit you. This way, a lot of people will start following you. Use Twitter Me Fun, it's a very easy technique to get more followers. Tim Linden (the owner of StartXchange) has created an interesting way to get a lot of new followers. Just follow the people on the list, and every new person on the list has to follow you in order for the system to work. The system works great. Follow "everybody" The more people you follow, the more people will follow you. I have seen people with more than 17,000 followers, but at the same time, they are following 18,000 people. So, start following, the more people you add, the more people will return the favor. You'll also need to use twitter the "right" way in order for people to start following you. A lot of people are looking at your profile and your tweets before they decide to follow you. Personality Your personality is really important. You need to be you, you need to tell all your followers at twitter that you are a vegetarian or that you are against Israel, or what ever you want to tell. It’s about being personal, and it’s about being true to what you are all about. Have fun Again, think of twitter like a party. You are there to have as much fun as possible. You want to talk to new people, you want to talk about new topics. You want to be part of the conversation that they are having, you want to be funny, and give your followers something entertaining, something to laugh at. Provide value You need to provide something of value, great content, that people really appreciate. It can be links to very interesting blog posts, resources that you enjoy. If you are selling something, give your followers a discount or a free trial. Retweet Spread the word. If one of your followers has posted an awesome tweet, retweet it. Send his post (include his @username) to your followers, this way, a lot more people will read what he has to say. And he will probably notice and help you later on. What do you think? - jens -
Thanks a lot for the tips Jens. In my opinion, the second one is the most important "Follow everybody". Mario
Thanks for the tip, this is something i am just starting to get into now and hopefully this will help me get more followers. -- Phil
Thanks a lot for the useful tips.. I am about to join Twitter bandwagon and these tips will definitely help Regards, Anup
How much traffic are people actually getting to their website from twitter? Just wondering if it's a worthwhile strategy?
I have less than 500 followers, and every time I post a link on twitter, it receives about 10 clicks. And I guess I get about 10 visitors a day to my blog each day from twitter. Not a lot, but think about people with thousands of followers! and I am still a newbie at twitter - jens -
When I first started with twitter, all I did was use the search function on twitter to find people that loved the same things I did, and then I followed them. In two days I have over 78 followers in return. So yes, it's totally possible.
This is a great post Jens thanks for this. I checked out Twitter Me Fun and saw you on the list, I am now following you. And guys, Twitter is HUGE and getting larger every day. You can promote anything you want on there as long as you're being "you" and not try to spam or anything like that. Don't worry about it being a worthwhile strategy, simply make your presence known by creating an account and networking with people.
Thanks Jens. I'm also newish to twitter - just passed the 100 followers mark - bookmarking this page for future reference.
I decided to join twitter today, fairly awesome....dont spam, just be yourself, follow, they will follow you, be yourself, and they will come. update: just got a new follower, I do not know what that means, but I think thats pretty damn cool. opps, I just got two new followers, I did not even have to list a finger... I really do not understand the principal yet, but its cool... feel free to follow me in my twitter sig...
No offense to the original poster who has provided helpful info here, but I think Twitter is a complete and utter waste of time. If you create original content on your site that is targeted to BUYERS (not followers who may or may not convert into customers) you can have minimal effort with your sites for maximum sales returns.
