Is this a good or bad idea? Do they devalue the link leaders & other bidders? Does it add value to site or detract from it? Look forward to hearing your views.
i decided to not bother doing this. they dont have as many indexed pages and it would de-value the listings in the directory. If someone wanted them for traffic they should big on the homepage instead. Most directories display the link leader sitewide anyway
I really don't see much logic in providing sitewide on a bidding directory.. to me its not a very good idea..
If a sponsor link is transient, isn't that the deciding factor? The sponsor has to decide whether to keep paying for the position or take a permanent listing via a bid.
I think it's a bad idea as 10 sitewide links in addition to 10 top links would devalue the bid directory.
Since one of the main ideas of a bidding directory is to bid for position on the front page I don't think site-wides are a very good idea. If someone can buy a site-wide for say $75 a year then it will discourage the bids being too big because you can just get a site-wide instead. On my bid for position web directory I decided to allow the top 20 bids to be shown on the home page and have made a commitment to not having any other site-wides, including removal of the designer and phpld links. The only option I have left open for myself is one banner space.
Yeah that was my point. Why bid $200+ to get on a home page when you can pay $20 a month for a sitewide link.
Besides the part about possibly discouraging larger bids I guess a few would not really make a big difference. If they are only showing the top 10 sites then up to an additional 10 would be ok with me. I should stress I am typically ok with multiple site-wides (within reason) it is just that a bid directory is built around the offer of home page/site-wide promotion.
Agreed 100% If Chris was selling Sitewides on BigWeblinks for $100 a month... I'd get ~20 months front page ... More affordable than beating Rob and bidding $2000+!!!!
Most of the bidding directories are using free phplinkbid themes wherein every theme has atleast two sponsors. Then you have powered by phpLinkBid....that makes it three links in footer. Then most of the bidding directories are running Top 10 links on homepage (if not 15) That makes it 13 links all together..... So why would anyone want to sell sitewides? That would just hurt your own directory..... You may see some profit coming in the beginning.....but that is not good from a long term prospective...(If google algo's work the way they do as on now) So i would recommend that people should not go for sitewides on bidding directory. This will also motivate link buyers to get the top link position by putting in a little extra....Makes sense!
if i see any links in listing pages(ofc m talking about sitewides not other listings : ) ), i won't submit my site.
I think it isin't a good idea on a bid directory, it would cause less high submissions, just like mikey said if a sitewide link costs $20 people would be interested in that instead of bidding $200 + just to become the #1 bidder.
hello... Agreed with Not allowing it as it does take away from the main people who cast their bids in hope of the advertising traffic. thx malcolm
Thanks for everyone's input. It's settled the question for me and the sponsor options are now disabled on Blendz.
