Sitewide Exchanges.Any Benefit?

If doing a link exchange with another site, are sitewides of more benefit than just a home page exchange?
eg. If your link and anchor is in the footer on 3,000 pages surely the search engines will just count this as one link as it sees the footer goes to the next page and sees the same footer and so discards it.
Ok so your link is on 3000 urls from the same site but surely the SE's will only count it as one link.
    Any thoughts on this appreciated.

I can argue that point. All of my websites link to eachother via the footer of there website. Yahoo has counted multiple backlinks on one of my sites that contains only 13 pages. Yet the link is in the footer of each page and each individually is recognized.

To answer your question, if the site you are trading links with is indexed, then a link to you will be found eventually in Google links check.

If you have a link on just one page of a site, it is not always found by the search engines, especially if it is on a Supplemental Page no matter what the page PR.

Also, you CAN receive more than one link from a site in a links check, but I am not sure how much this helps in Google. It does boost your Yahoo links count though. I have a site with over 20,000 links in Yahoo, but 95% of them are from pages in the site. :(

The link development is changing. Its no longer the same. Google can tell its a link exchange. The only way forward is 3 way.

Pagerank has changed so much over the years. I used to have a cheezy personal "shoutout" website that exchanged links with other personal websites. We also posted out link in guestbooks, but somehow this page managed to obtain a pagerank of 5. Which is not great but still pretty significant in my opinion.

I am somewhat pretty savvy in SEO and with my studies I have found that some engines do count every page and some do not.. Your hardest engine to get to notice multiple links count because of the footer being in every page is google. Megadeals made a bit of point as well.. Links are not always found and given credit for by the SE either. In some cases they do find the link but to put it frankly they do not quite care. This can be a relevancy issue sometimes. The larger search engines have evolved into using a lot of relevancy protocols when spidering a page. As well you have a the rule of the bigger engines ignoring duplicate content. You may get credit for a few pages where your link shows in the footer but when google for example sees a duplicate entry over and over again they will ignore it for majority of sub pages unless they can greatly determine the link is relevant for the page instead of duplicate content. After all their job is deliver relevant results.. When you type in a search query you want to find exactly what you are looking for and not what some website is trying to associate with..

If there is any engine to give you more credit than you deserve it will be Yahoo.
