    8,000 from Shout?
Been on the front page a couple times, and it was only worth around 1,500 each time.
You must have had something damn interesting to shout. ;)

It could also be shout has grown expoentially a great deal...and as such the numbers refered are much different since when you were on, and the time and the poster before you was on.

Also it would seem other influences come into play as with anything people have an interest in..

Update: Some of my fake-Digg's were deleted, some were not.

I am not able to determine a pattern from the small sample size of my test.

I understand Sem-Advance...but mine was front page last week, LOL.
    Only 38 shouts, however.
Did get the Torrentspy effect as well.

Will- it is interesting what you are playing with on Digg.
Granted, the visitors may not be the targets one would like to have, but 20 grand is A LOT of people looking at your site...and we know for a fact some do come back for more.
I'd love to know if there is anything in Adsense to prohibit this type of traffic.....
Can't very well call it spam if somebody else is submitting your site, right?

<----tosses that theory out the door.

Could come down to headline tag and writing style?

ahahah i have exactly 38 shouts too...

Im not too good with that really either lol..

    My stats are:
    19 May 2006 46 Uniques
    20 May 2006 61 Uniques
    [Put on shoutwire]
    21 May 2006 6850 Uniques 1.84 GB in bandwidth
22 May 2006 1248 Uniques 333.08 MB in bandwidth (So Far, until the stats package updates)

Had a crazy impact on my traffic, and i don't even think i was at the very top, was on the front page 5th down, and going down slowly throughout the day since i noticed.

Well, the previous posts are speaking of Shoutwire.
A Digg front page will blow your roof off if you aren't prepared.

In my experiments with various blogs and sites set up to test the headlines and subject matter, I've come to the conclusion that much (but certainly not all) of the game is manipulated in some way.

I'm a writer of published works in various niches and can say that some of my headlines were far and away better than those on the "Front Page".

There is something going on with the social bookmarking sites...but its anybody's guess what that is.

One guy can submit an example of "End of the World is Today!" against "Neat Scientific Discovery", and the latter would end up on the front page with 148 comments while the first one would garner about 8 votes (diggs, shouts- whatever) with only one of the regular misfits commenting.

There really is no rhyme or reason that I can ascertain just yet.

As for the newsletter idea- I did have it on one of my blogs.
Of around 7,000 readers from the traffic spike- 7 signed up for the RSS feed and 0 for the newsletter.

Well I saw traffic of about 4000 unique visitors from the COSD listing yesterday. It appears there may be a shadow effect as well as traffic number today were about an additional 4 to 5 hundred above par for a Wednesday.

I am hoping that I can get some sort of additional coverage off this as my site rated very well (if you check the history of site rankings in the CSOD archives most rate at around 5 out of 10 - ours was above 6 and the 3rd highest rating for the month so we're pleased).

One additional thing to note is when you submit your site you include a note about your site. When a CSOD email goes out it includes your blurb so 125,000 people potentially see your blurb and only those that have an interest in what your blurb says will click thru - I think this means that CSOD actually has potential to be fairly well targeted.

How long after submitting your site did you have to wait before they actually listed it?

After reading this thread I thought I'd try submitting one of my articles to Shoutwire. So far in just under 24 hours I've received a whopping 6 visitors. Guess the subject matter isn't very well matched to their community.
