Do any of you run a site offering legal information? Are you an attorney? If you are not an attorney have you ever had any "unautorhized practice of law" type of problems? I know authors of do-it-yourself legal manuals have gotten into hot water in the past. What steps do you take to protect yourself?

I'm in the process of developing trademark-lawyers.org, with the sole intent of having some basic information about TMs as well as referral links to services to conduct TM searches, register TMs, or find a TM lawyer. I think as long as you have a notice stating that you aren't a lawyer and none of the material on your site is considered "legal advice" you should be fine. This is the approach I am going to take anyway. I think unless you explicitly claim to be a lawyer when you are not, you should be fine.
