An open challenge to the co-op mangement and development team.

Get the popcorn ready people. This ought to be an interesting thread.

    Dear co-op dev team.

Currently Google is crushing any site running co-op ads.

    1. What do you have to say about this development?

    2. Is it possible that you can point to the URL of a site - running ads - that has not been crushed in the SERPS?

Read the rest of my posts. I've used the COOP in the past.

ehiphop ... maybe you should be asking big G about their obviously flawed PR and backlink heavy serps model ? BTW if you are sooooo concerned about the coop simply stop using it, if you are!

I have removed the ads from one of my sites ten days ago and it is still penalized. When did you remove yours?

My coop site went supplemental and lost all its weight. I removed coop and replaced with link vault and all the pages are now indexed again. Maybe its a coincidence but maybe not.

Well how come I have now ZERO traffic from google (used to be about 30% of my traffic), after putting the coop on my site a week before all these sites were getting penalized? I didn't have enough time to get any incoming links courtesy of the coop. I've been crushed by just having it on there, which is just plain unlucky because I put it on the week before everyone was getting screwed. I really hope my rankings return higher than they were when I got penalized (if it returns at all), because I now have a lot of good natural incoming links (article on about.com featuring my site), and its bloody useless. darn it!!! All i'm getting is MSN traffic, and the odd yahoo hit.

    From Minstrel's Matt Cutts Digest:

I don't think this part can be gone over enough. We have no really idea how sites are now being penalized from providing relevancy with links. You may be getting a PR7 link that is giving you absolutely no value because the site has been penalized for selling links.

I think this impacts the entire equation for everyone, and people need to keep that in mind. When they can selectively discount links from any particular site, it will impact every site related to them.

Perhaps a side effect of the co-op is that sites with co-op had their link power devauled. Since people often interlink their own sites, they may have inadvertently hurt more than just their sites with co-op on it, as those sites lost the ability to give full link value.

Removed on the 23rd of June, still feeling the penalty. I am seeing gbot activity, but no improvement in the SERPs.

Very good points!! Once your ability to give reputation is gone your vote is worth nothing. This really causes you to look at the links you're buying. Buyer beware!! This can effectively elimate link sellers. Since I don't buy or sell links it really doesn't effect me but there are millions that do. My bet is most of these link buyers are not aware of that fact. As aeiouy suggests, this would translate to a COMPLETE waste of your money. You're better to donate this money to a charity of your choice, IMO.

    I'm curious..

    1. It's your opinion, not the truth, so I wouldn't call that a "development".
    2. http://www.lalalingerie.com/

Sites have been dropping in and out of serps long before the coop was invented. I think it's hilarious when people want to blame a drop in serps on the coop. Whatever makes you feel better...

Very nice, site ;). I think one issue is relevance. So if this site is still doing fine then perhaps the links pointing to this site are seen as relevant . VS, what are the KWs you are promoting on this site? I tried to find you in Google under 'sexy costumes' (found in your title) and couldn't find this site? I also checked you bls and shows 44 links...many of them look very relevant. This leads me to believe that Google is really looking at relevance. The target may not be link networks, but if your ibls from the network are spammy, crap or completely irrelevant then you will see no benefit or worst maybe a penalty. In your example relevance is clearly illustrated. Every website is unique though. What works for you may not work for others. I think it comes down to relevance and churning ads that can make or break your site.

DP has a link building section where I have seen people selling links. Here is a simple Google search

    Cheers

Doesn't look particularly "healthy" to me....

Your search - related:www.lalalingerie.com/ - did not match any documents.

    Results 61 - 61 of about 104 for "www.lalalingerie.com".

    Results 1 - 6 of about 883 from www.lalalingerie.com

Your search - link:VaL41ZS8I7IJ:www.lalalingerie.com/ - did not match any documents.

That's one of the points made in this thread. With link networks you don't necessarily have that kind of control. So if I had a ton of weight to throw around and ended up getting links from automotive ==> apples and oranges those links would not have much value, maybe even a penalty from what I have seen and others are stating.

Of course I am only offering an opinion, you can take it or leave it. Whether Google is targeting this and other networks can't be proven, but the unforeseen consequence of Google's new algo may end up on the front door of all link networks. My feeling is if link network users could actually have more say in the links that point to them it may improve net result for the network and user's within.

    Respectfully,

    H
