I don't know about you guys but i think this is absolute Bull$hit .... http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260671 I loved going through and seeing who had what for sale, but now it looks like the greed has taken over.
It's the sign of a maturing industry and oppertunities. But as a longtime sitepointer, I'm amazed... and Shocked. But heck it's their site.
you're right.. it is their site the community is shocked as well... i'm sure there are better ways to approach the problem (such as displaying adsense w/in the forum) .... the main problem is that it will cost you 9.95 to list your site even if it doesn't sell.
That's no different than freemerchant.com switching to a paid program for ecommerce sites. Of course, the real irony is that they still use the freemerchant.com domain even though there is nothing free about them.
I have mixed feelings since I purchase sites more than sell. Looking back I think some of the people that I have bought sites from will not list there sites now. But there is so much to weed through at times this will help ensure - I hope - quality listings.
I've been contemplating putting up my three best revenue earning sites for sale as a package. Maybe this is a good time! I find it hard to believe $9.95 is causing such a ruckus. Just selling a domain on Sedo or Afternic will cost considerably more than that.
it will certainly weed out the low-value turnkey sites as they usually sell for under $100 ... i think the SP community in general is pissed about the move.. i know i am. (only because i enjoy seeing what other people have for sale... not because i'm a seller... not to mention that's what brings me into the forums, and then i start posting in other areas)
I think that is fair considering that there are so many scam artists just putting sites up to get hits, it weeds out the goofballs that just want exposure and really are not selling their sites anyway.
