Ok, now for some serious answers. Well, what I noticed is. SP is mainly a bookseller. They wanna sell books and kind of use there forums to promote them. Sort of like, find a hungry person and feed him your mom's recipe type deal. I mean that's pretty much how the stuff is set up, u got stuff on computer topics then u got their people and ads promoting their books on the topic. Similar to daniweb, minus the books. I remember when Wrox press first came out, they were promoting there stuff left & right. I bought a few of them, but that was about the only books i bought from them. Books is good business, but you've got these mega publishers like Addison Wesley, Prentice Hall, even O'Rielly & Sybex & Sams, all over Amazon.com and IMO, it's not easy to compete with them. As far as marketplace goes there's many out there like Ebay companies, rentacoder, guru.com & I think daniweb also has their own marketplace. Who knows, maybe DP will have a premium marketplace too in the future. Now lets talk traffic. If your site's got traffic, u've got power. Nothing to do about quality posts or any jargon like that. Heck you go to myspace and see if the stuff you find there is quality. Well, if people come to a place regularly and participate and browse or do whatever, that's power right there. Fact is, DP is 8 - 10 times, yes 8 - 10 times busier then SP. It has some important people on it's member list like Matt Cutts from Google and who knows who else. Ok, heres a marketplace example. I created this one thread on DP about 2 hours ago http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=535333 I've already got like 6 replies 4 messages and 3 prospects. All within 2 hours. I also went to SP's marketplace and emailed a few and messaged somebody but I'm still waiting.
SP is good for selling big sites and services at reasonable for seller rates, not for peanuts like here. And fees and rules feed out $1-$10 (sometimes more, depends on project) guys. And thanks them for that. However to buy small sites and probably to find someone's services maybe less expensive than everywhere (but again you need to check lot of this cheap people, lot of orders and all of it = time = money) and for some ideas and fluff talk DP is best. I wouldn't call DP best in terms of making money, SP much better at it. It all depends what you call money. However if we talk about busy webmaster forum then DP. That's why I am active here but do not sell anything.
I have registered on sitepoint but I hardly visit it. The reason is that the people are not that friendly there.
Site Point ! I could care less for them. Everything is about the buck. You can't even list a site for sale without paying a heafty fee.
Sitepoint is pretty good for selling a site, but dp is the best for webmaster information. Nothing beats it!!!
Wow, this seems to be a little bit strict. Obviously you were trying to just help the person out - and helped many others out in the process. I've checked out SP every now and again, but it doesn't have anywhere near the resources and helpful people that DP does
Do you have any idea why Sitepoint doesn't have anywhere near as much resources and helpful people that DP has?
Seriously, why is SP for rich webasters? I'm starting to love it here in DP. But I have no experience with SP. Just wondering why SP is for rich webmasters.
