I never go to sitepoint i think its too confusing with its setup. I like Dp, plain and simple. I spend all my forum time at DP, even more than at my own site...ok thats not good! I voted for IM a grun though because I knew DP had a tremendous lead already
I tried to read a bit and get into sitepoint as Shawn said it was good, but never really got into it or posted much there. I only usually post at DP but do visit v7n, WMW, SEW, Cre8, Searchen, SE-Table, LV every now and then. I use to visit SEO Chat but it's just too damn slow with all the ads. These days I'm more into Threadwatch and following blogs.
Call me stupid, but why is there a competition with site point specifically. Are there not other forums to compare as well? Why all the sitepoint posts? DP rocks.
The sell your site forum at SP is awful. The "moderation" of that forum is the biggest joke on the Internet. It's become a haven for scammers because nobody is allowed to say anything about the scam or they get a threat of banning (I've had several). I even got my account banned one day because I strongly objected to a racist site being sold there. One moderator banned me, then the next day the racist thread was gone so apparently someone agreed but I was still banned.
I am SICK of paying for everything over there, look at the difference. Here they share the revenue, there...well you get it.
I respect your opinion. IMHO it is not because of "seo" it is because he writes wonderful "free" softwares and then get valuable backlinks which drive traffic and then more backlinks, it is a very healthy cycle. And why today DP has more active members is because of free "tools" which Shawn wrote. Then members start to share some webmastership thoughts which create "thread".These threads are indexed by Google and then silly google display these indexed pages in serp which drive more traffic and then start new healthy cycle for DP. Blog my tool
This is a very interesting thread... it's always very useful to read how people perceive us, and how we stack up against others. I certainly respect the community that Shawn has built up at DP - knowing how hard it is, I think it's a fantastic achievement. There's some great people and great discussions in these forums.
It is very hard to say. I like these forums because of the marketing part of them, but I prefer sitepoint due to the amount of help you receive when you have a site programming problem.
DigitalPoint has wonderful free tools (evergreen) on its base. SitePoint has wonderful writers (evergreen) on its base. I am seeing good future at forums.
