ive put my script up on here and sitepoint, 6 sales from here 0 from sitepoint. bastards. anyone else experienced the same issues?
Not really, I have advertised my services in the past at sitepoint and had a ROI of more than 2000% , I guess it depends on the product and the service you are advertising.
I don't know but sitepoint has always worked great for me! Everysite i listed on there got sold i also advertised my services and did great! And yeah it does depend on the product. - Prilep
I think they really shot themselves in the foot with the last round of price increases, it's driven sellers away and hence potential buyers have also dropped. I use to visit it religiously every day, and did so for a long time, but DP is soooo much better now, hence I bought my time and money here (new mem here in Jan)
I've used SitePoint a few times to sell some sites but it hasn't been particularly successful. I expect to be using it to sell a script in the near future but I think there fees are a bit high when you can use sites like DP to sell for free.
Going to take the reverse side here. I visit SP multiple times daily and have spent over $200 in the last 2 months at their marketplace with decent results.
I've had good and bad luck listing in SP's marketplace. The bad luck sure sucks worse when you spent $10 to get it...
I'm using both right now... I get response from both, but I am more active on DP, that could be why I get a better response here. Sitepoint definitely has it's advantages at times though, especially for selling websites or businesses.
You can still pick up the occasional bargain there, but because of the fees people seems to automatically price their sites higher...more higher than the $10/ $20 fee...it's a perception thing I guess, over all though DP is much better if you're looking to pick up bargains, after all people seem to be a little more easy going when the listing is free...the rest of DP is better as well, better conversation, more friendly banter and interesting topics. Sure, you still get some great experts at Sitepoint, but the depth is here at DP.
SP is great if you are selling a site over $xx. There are alot of serious buyers on sitepoint who don't visit other web dev forums, such as this one. For larger sites and projects, I always use Sitepoint. However, I also list them on DP.
I've always wondered about the just sucking it up and paying the prices over there. There are so many other places, like here, that you can sell things. It seems like for sites, thats the place to go, the legitimacy of the people on it buying and the sites that go up really help it out. But for other things, domain names, scripts, smaller sites, etc, I would go elsewhere. Products though, I'm not too sure about. Interesting to hear the reactions listed above.
I think that SP is great for selling/buying quality web sites. This $20 fee per listing has increased the level, but this is only for web sites. For products DP is miles away mostly because you can also read on people's feedback and because the community will always "protect" you from scammers.
SitePoint used to be a perfect place for advertising but not after they changed their direction.. Just take a look at their thread view will reveal now many offers were actually viewed there..
i actually think sitepoint made a good move in putting a cost to listing sites for sale. their main business is selling books anyway... and the revenue from listing sites is peanuts to them. it's more of a service to webmasters and they don't have to waste time moderating the sales threads. also, only the quality sites get listed.
