Hi, with sitemaps (google xml variety, not html on site ones!) - Is there an optimum size of the site map.

    I mean, two questions really:

    • If you were submitting sitemaps of 400'000 urls... how many would you personally break it down to ? and why? (I am talking about breaking it down into multiple sitemaps, so they dont time out or screw up by being too big)
    • Is there a max size the google states???
    Thanks everyone!!!

Sitemap files have a limit of 50,000 URLs and 10 MegaBytes per sitemap. Sitemaps can be compressed using gzip, reducing bandwidth consumption. Multiple sitemap files are supported, with a Sitemap index file serving as an entry point for a total of 1000 sitemaps.
