i have tried reading about the sitemap but im still not getting it..

    what exactly does it do?

a friend offered to do a sitemap for my site if i give him a home page link on one of my PR1 blogs... a lifetime link..

    is that worth it??

does the sitemap help out your site enough?

yes, it's very helpful. It helps google easier to index your site.

You can use a free service like: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

It's supposed to give Google something to compare the spider results with what it's supposed to be finding.

If you just want to try to make one to see what you get, I just this java sitemap generator. I like it because it alos checks for broken links at the same time:

The advantage of having a sitemap, is that if it is done right it should result in more of your site's pages being indexed by Google. Google hardly ever indexes all of the pages for any site and you need to get indexed to get Search Engine Traffic. So anything you can do to get more pages indexed should be to your advantage.

haha... I would never give up a link for an xml sitemap! It takes like 5 minutes to do! A sitemap is the best way to inform major search engines of your content.

No one should submit their website to search engine the old way, submitting sitemap when new content is posted does the trick.

Here's a link where you can find explanation and step-by-step sitemap tutorials. Hopefully this will help you get started. In your case a free sitemap service may be enough. (Depends on your website size and other factors)

If you download a free copy of gSiteCrawler and run it on you site, you will get what Google and the other SE's need.

Just make sure that you place the xml sitemap in the root directory of your site.
