As far as I know, there were four kinds of sitemaps. XML Sitemap ROR Sitemap HTML Sitemap and Urllist Sitemap I believe that the sitemap used for images and videos were XML sitemaps.
No major search engine ever announced support for ROR (but they do read the standard XML/RSS parts, but not the ROR extensions) Image and video sitemaps are extensions of XML sitemaps.
