Sitemaps for blogs

Are sitemaps required for blogs?

I don't know too much about them and wondered if this was a necessary step with any blog, or do the likes of wordpress have this function/code built in?

Sorry for such a newbie question.

 

Sitemaps are never required, they just help getting more pages indexed faster

 

i always use sitemaps on my wordpress blogs because it makes me feel better in the knowledge that my site will get looked at by Google,

There are loads of sitemap plugins too, especially for wordpress - hit up the wordpress . org plugin site

 

Any particular recommendations ric482?

 

gsitecrawler, is an really nice tool for generating sitemaps.

I use it for quite a while now...

 

for wordpress there are lot of plugins available, i use Google sitemap generator, when i make a new post, the sitemap gets update automatically.

Site maps are a good idea. I suggest using a mobile site map for your blog if you are updating it frequently.

 

I put a sitemap plugin on my blog. I don't know if it does much but others have it so I put it on it.

 

Use a plugin, switch it on and you are done! Personally I have always been using GOOGLE SITEMAP GENERATOR which you'll find easily in the wordpress plugins directory as it's a featured plugin

 

Sitemap might help in getting faster indexing of your posts.

I use the sitemap listed above. It allows you to create robot.txt files, update the sitemap manually, add auto-priority for your pages all in one plugin!

 

You can add sitemap to your wp blog & it is useful to get your content listed in google easily as google mainly target the sitemap to notice the site activity.
