Sitemap.xml & Sitemap.xml.gz Problems

Discussion in 'Google Sitemaps' started by aslinger, Mar 13, 2008.

    Hi,

I'm using a wordpress plugin to generate my sitemaps (XML-Sitemaps) for some reason when I submit both sitemaps to Googles Webmaster Tools I get the follow problems:

    sitemap.xml Web Mar 11, 2008 14 hours ago OK 31

    sitemap.xml.gz Web Feb 22, 2008 13 hours ago OK 285

Does anyone know why the sitemap.xml only shows 31 urls submitted but the xml.gz shows 285 - I have not may over 200 pages in an hour so I can't work out why they are not the same?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Adam

I had the same thing happen. Did you ever find out what caused the error? Would appreciate it if you would let me know.

The ones you cannot delete from webmaster tools, you can delete them from your hosting control panel

Thanks guys! I do appreciate the responses.

I did find out that RichardSEO is absolutely correct, in my case, as it is a site map update and I just needed to exclude it from the script I am running. However, RichardSEO, I don't know why you would want to delete these files.

Perhaps you would like to explain?
