Sitemap vs. Webpage Submission

    I've seen software that promises page-by-page website submission, which is supposedly better than using a sitemap. Is this true? I'd imagine that submitting a sitemap would be just the same as submitting each URL individually.

    The crawler is just going to index them the same, right? I'd imagine that if search engines wanted to have each page submitted, they'd ask for it! Anyway, does anybody know the scoop on this?
