Sitemap still not showing

Discussion in 'Google Sitemaps' started by Bannaz, Mar 22, 2009.

I submitted a sitemap for a client about 2 months ago, and when doing a search for their website, the sitemap still doesn't show.

How long does this take? Could we have done something wrong?

    Thanks!

It seems that u hav used WMT (Google web master tools)to submit a site map and now expecting to see it in search results for website name...its quite unusual that after 2 months still its not there...check whether it has been blocked or no-indexed in some way or other

Well, if u have got all the links indexed in Google that are embedded in a site map...then need not 2 worry for site map itself getting indexed:)

I don't know if this is what you have already done or if it's of any use but here's what I do:

    1. Create the XML sitemap
    2. Check that it is actually valid
    3. Submit to Google

I generally get my sites indexed initially within a week and fully (providing there's not thousands of pages) with a month.

I've seen a site go from a domain purchase to number 1 in Google within 72 hours and the sitemap was only indexed a day later.

Content, what more van I say....?

no it does not take 2 months, i submitted a sitemap with over 900,000 urls and over 70% got indexed within 3-4 weeks.

Are their any errors when you look at the overview of your sitemap in google webmaster tools?

All of the pages are indexed and have plenty of backlinks.

I'm talking about when I do a search for the company name "joe bloggs", it doesn't show a list of links to other pages in the site.

    Here's what you can do:
    1. Check your Robots.txt file for errors.
    2. Create a new Sitemap, verify if it is correct. Upload it to Google again.

Google does take some time to Index new sitemaps but 2 months does not sound reasonable. Have you maybe redirected webpages etc?

if your exact mean is to see your robots link in SE then it is never possible to see a robo.txt link in results, and if your all pages are indexed then nothing is wrong, mention here if you find your desired keyword in SE... then do you see your desired results or not ?

If you have placed a link to the xml sitemap on any page of your website, than only it can become appear in search results.

anyways, no need to worry.. sitemaps are not meant for getting indexed. the URLs included in a sitemap are required to be indexed..

If, those URLs are not getting indexed than its a matter of worry....
revert back if it is the case....

    goodluck

u don't need it unless u are supposed to block any page from ur site for search engine robots.
