Sitemap Question

    I have heard that it is better to name the link to your sitemap something else as appose to sitemap, and also the sitemap filename…

    Is this true and why would that be?

    I would always *try* to optimize your link text, so instead of calling your link "sitemap", I'd at least make it "<yoursite name> sitemap". That's about the only reason I could think of...

    No it's not true. Name it sitemap.htm(l). That way people and spiders all know exactly what it is.

    The sitemap for Google is at http://www.google.com/sitemap.html -- note the filename.
