My webhost doesnt allow direct downloads and their protection is messing up my site maps on all my sites.. here is what gets displayed example http://kewlchat.org/sitemap.xml see they time it out and put ads on it.. same for .txt files .. can sitemaps work in html format or php and when the searches try to verify it ot read it they cant .. This doesnt affect me in msn search im still number #1 so my traffic is good.. But on yahoo and google its a big problem i think id do alot better on G and Y if i had a working site map but my webhost refuses to help.... they are free and fast so i cant hardly move my sites unless i found another free one anyway.. any ideas on how i can get a working site map.. can you put site maps on another server and point to it in web tools? I can live with out one cause i get tons of hits just i wana take better advantage of yahoo and google and im afraid this is whats hurting me in those serps.. I dunno what to do any suggestions would help
In that case you need to be get a free one and do it as soon as possible. Because Google and Yahoo can give you more business. So its up to you.
Hi Sitemaps wont get you get higher in serps ! i am of the opinion you dont even need them if ur sites designed properly, but most people have a sitemap to cover all the bases and help get their pages indexed and you can use it to get more stats via the webmaster page. Very strange that page times out and a bit naughty they put ads on there, i would have words with them tell who ever own the server to sort it, or take ur buisness elsewhere cos thats not cricket at all ! Ya i hate that and they got alot of rules and stuff.. and when you ask them to change it they are like 'get a paid account we cant do that on free ones' lol it doesnt seem to hurt at all on msn serach but it makes me wonder about google and yahoo cause i get only like 3% trafic from them and 90% from msn.. lol yeah nice to see another chat room owner on the forum, well i pay for all my hosting so dont get any of that, msn search is easyier to crack than the other 2 search engines, i dont think having a sitemap will solve your problems with the other search engines, its likely to be somthing else that will get you higher on there and not just submitting a sitemap. Yea thats how i always felt about it before i never thought it would help much. I mean sitemaps they mainly just for finding your pages.. Seems if im already indexed for a year it shouldnt be a factor or effect my position if i dont have one.. Im thinking about moveing my 2 neest sites to another webhost as soon as i find a better one as well. Ive spent the past 2 year soley optomizeing for msn only.. learning all on my own by trial and error and not learning the tricks for google. Guess to be on top in google im Mainly Going to have to keep building back links. After all google and yahoo is alot bigger playing field then msn was
