Sitemap Index: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/sitemap.php OKay, this site has around 85,500 pages listed ("site:classiccarsforsale.co.uk"). If I went into webmaster tools, Monday, it said Total URLs around 91k and Indexed URLs around 65k. However, my 2 sitemap files were approaching the 50k URL limit, so Tuesday I made the sitemap index (above), containing the same URLs. Then resubmitted, the indexed URLs has dropped to 32k (according to webmaster tools). If I look at individual Sitemaps within the sitemap index, they say "Indexed URLS, no data available check back soon". Google has spidered sitemap index twice since submit. QUESTION 1 - Is it a case of just waiting? If so, how long is typical? QUESTION 2 - Assuming there are no adverse effects as pages are still listed Now, this is more worrying. If I go into content analysis, it used to say that there were around 10k pages with duplicate title or meta description. This has dropped to around 5k, BUT for around 10 days hasn't seem to have budged. All of the 'errors' have been resolved I believe, but I want Google to reindex so that I can check they're all gone. To help this along I set the lastmod on the sitemap to a new date, hoping Google would see that it's changed and update, but not working. Google says it spiders around 20k pages on our site daily (min 12k max 41k), so I am wondering why it's not picking up that the descriptions have changed and these are no longer duplicates. QUESTION 3 - How long should it take (roughly) for these duplicate pages to be reindexed and therefore errors removed from webmaster tools? QUESTION 4 - anyway I can speed this up? Like tell Google "I have fixed problems on most pages, please can you look again" Many thanks for any help I'm not panicing yet, just like to know how long it usually takes and that I'm doing all I can. Don't want to get 3 months down the line and realise I've not done something that I should have
Thing thing about "no data available" / "indexed urls" I would not worry about really. It has no influence (as far as I know) in what Google *actually* has indexed. See my Google Webmaster Tools indexed urls article.
OKay, thanks mate What about reindexing for duplicate meta desc/title? (Qs 3 and 4) Will read your article thx
