    Hi,
just wondering what is the importance of making a sitemap, when is it useful and whether does it affects your ranking in the search engines.

Could it be useful making one for my sites in the signature? Please check and tell me, thanks!

A sitemap will ensure that all your pages get indexed. It will not have any affect on ranking.

I think a sitemap is important if you have some really deep pages or your using variables in your page titles and G might not like them.

Create a sitemap, and get some inbound links to your sitemap, and your website(s) will be indexed.

I've had one since they started using sitemaps. No change. No difference seen.

I think you're better off using a regular sitemap on your site for all the bots to follow.

Whoa! Nice link. I need to start hanging out in these forums more often. I had no idea Google came out with that. How exactly does it work?

Honey, can you elaborate on what you mean by "get some inbound links to your sitemap? How do these links differ from links to your site?

It took some time. The hardest part was elaborating my sitemap. Then... all I had to do was waiting... Google indexed my pages in over 3 months and it is still indexing.

sitemaps make it easier for the spiders to crawl your site.
sitemaps also help the visitors to navigate easily, so sitemaps are beneficial for both the spiders and visitors.

with google indexing... just be patient :D
but sometimes there's no changes. i wonder why is that happening??? i think it depends with your site if its optimized or not. of course its better to have optimized site. :)

Use a creator and submit it to Google (google for 'google sitemaps' and you'll find where to put it.). Check hotscripts for some bots that will make your sitemap for you..there are a few decent free ones.

I have a lyrics site that only had about 400 pages indexed by Google, and now it has over 13,000 indexed after submitting the sitemap.
