I am looking for good sitemap generator for my web sites. There are 2 paid generators are highly recommanded on this forum.

    xml-sitemaps and coffeecup sitemap generator.

The one I am using is free one from http://www.freesitemapgenerator.com , can someone compare those paid generators and this free one? let me know whats teh difference between them.

if those paid ones is much better, i will buy, otherwise, i just stay with the one I am using now.

How much does having a sitemap help you with getting pages indexed?

Using a sitemap generator halps loads. I noticed the bots come back more frequently as well. The indexing time is cut down amazingly!

xml-sitemap is excellent, I used it for one of my sites. As for my blog, I found a big improvement with my wordpress sitemap.

I use a home made sitemap on my main site, and it's working great.

i use the above for all my sites and i have found it very good, i have found in the past a number of the pay crawlers index to such an extreme they get stuck in a loop, e.g. one site i did had 2000 page database driven website and when the bot has finished it found over 8000 pages before i stopped it

Gsite crawler is the way forward

There are plenty of .NET sitemap generators but most require you to be able to adjust something is IIS. It's difficult to find an alternative that works well.

If you are on shared hosting then this is a no-no.

I've created a simple script that reads the filesystem on your website and creates a sitemap on the fly, e.g. XMLSiteMap.aspx this works fine for Google and it also seems to work for Yahoo! - all without touching IIS.

Code is adapted from a few examples I found on the net that use the web.sitemap but this way it's fully automatic.

You can check it out and download the source code via my website: http://www.aaronreynolds.co.uk/blogs/20070719214340.html

I think there is no difference between paid and free sitemap generators. If you want use software for creating Sitemaps you can use GSite Crawler.

I've just stumbled across a sitemap generator that does Google, Yahoo, HTML, etc.

Loads of other crawling stuff in there as well. It's a beta so probably some rought edges but looks excellent to me :

Just get a script and build your own sitemap, your out sourcing something that might come back and bite you.

Well, there are no golden rules as such. OpenOffice is a great product suite, but so is Microsoft Office, and many people choose to buy it. Please bear in mind that I sell my product, A1 Sitemap Generator, but I will simply recommend you try out multiple (free/paid/whatever) products and compare the scan results and time + support.

If you are interested, you may also want to read about XML page priority values since that is an area many generators implement poorly. (Which I suppose is fair IF you believe priority values do not make a difference. However, many generators set all pages to the same priority value, e.g. "0.5", which is pointless at best.)
