I have SMF 1.1.3 a PHP Forum. I used a sitemap generator tool in XML. Do I have to update it regularly like every day or everyweek?

Up to you, but it is easy to e.g. schedule and automate A1 Sitemap Generator (link takes you to help page) using Windows Scheduler. I think there may be more programs supporting similar functionality, but I do not know for sure.

I update most of my sitemaps generally every week.

Programmes like the one I use at xml-sitemaps have a capacity for a cron job if your host allows it. My directory uses this sitemap and I have the cron job every week.

sitemaps are usless for a forum. Use an RSS feed burnt in "Feedburner"... btw, I use SMF, and my forums are indexed regularly in Google. If you need info on how to optimize your SMF forum PM me, and I'll turn you on to some essential links.

basically it is where you get a command to run automatically at a set time.

I have my sitemap crawl command set to run every week. This freshens my sitemap and pings Google with it.

yes, you must update your sitemap after your site is updated.

using an outdated sitemap may hurt your web site
