    site map is very important for every web site. and you say your website is a business directory in this case you have multiple product and service. these multiple product and services spread in various pages. for improving the visibility of the product and services you have to create site map of your website and submit it through the help of webmaster tool.

    What is the best way onto making a SEO OPTIMIZED sitemap is it using a generator? or doing it all manually? or using php generation? or are they all the same?

    on Internet several tools are available which generate sitemap very easily. but you have to do some modification it that because the may contain some errors

    site map is very important for website, if you create site map for your website then it is easy for the Google bot to see all your links and index it.
