    Hi,
    Quite out of the blue, I got this mail from site5:

    ===
    Hello,

    Web access to your account has been disabled because you are in violation of the following provision in our Resource Usage Policy:

    "Simultaneous Apache connections may not exceed 50 from all sources at any given time."

    Source: http://www.site5.com/support/rup.php

    At the time of suspension, your account had 486 HTTP connections (Apache) to port 80.

    This volume of connections may be due to a surge in traffic or a possible denial of service attack against your account. You may want to consider upgrading to a dedicated server if you continue to utilize this many connections.

    Access to your account will remain disabled until the number of connections to your account has dropped below 50. You will need to contact us to have a technician check the server to see if the connections have dropped below 50.

    ===

    What are they really talking about here? Are they saying that more than 50 people accessed by website simultaneously, or is it more complex than that?

    What should I do now? (I did write to them asking them to check whether the number of connections have dropped below 50)

    Thanks
    Ajeet

    I think you should just take your money and move to another host. Its ridiculous limiting someone to 50 concurrent connections and you would be better off with a host that doesn't have such a policy.

    Albeit 468 connections is a lot, though it could be due to a DOS attack or they are inflating it. How many pageviews and uniques do you get?

    If you do not mind my naivette: Does 50 concurrent connections mean that 50 people were surfing my site simultaneously? I have a bunch of blogs that attract BOTs comment-spamming. Could that trigger this?

    It could be just 1 person making 50+ connections.
