Looks like log spam to me...which has nothing to do with the coop.

Do you actually see the coop running on any of those sites?

Its is not the co-op. It is referrer spam. I've seen those same urls's in my logs. Ban them using .htaccess.

    Smryl, (or someone) :)

Can you give me a "layman's" explanation of "referrer spam" please?

    Why is it done?
Where in my stats can would I see it? Regular webalizer/awstats or RAW LOGS?
I see it can stopped via .htaccess.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Referrer spam is a technique of introducing erroneous inforrmation in your stats. When viewing your stats it appears as if a site is linking to you when in actuality it is not. The hope is that you either click on the clink and come to their site or post your statistics in which case they will get a backlink. Porn, pharmeseutical, casinos, and lending sites are the worst offenders.

Webalizer, Awstats, etc will show the spam.

It it maddening when your logs in no way reflect the true statistics for your site.

HOW do they "introduce" their spam/links into OUR stats?

    Thanks again,
    Mike

OK, I guess it's referrer spam, nevermind. Thanks for the info, I was worried that my efforts to get some backlinks for the site using the co-op were wasted. Since I haven't used anything but this site to do that I thought they were the only backlinks I was getting.

    for shannon:
Referrer spam is just too easy, if you really want to know how it is done:

connect to any web server on port 80 (telnet www.server.com 80)
    and enter

    GET / HTTP/1.1
    Host: www.server.com:80
    XXXXXX: http://www.this.is.a.great.site.com/

    Code (markup):

and whoopy! all the stupid statistic programs pick up on that and list the this.is.a.great.site.com as a 'back link'.

Now all you have to do is write a script that does this the entire day, to random websites and sooner or later you will get traffic.

@edit: XXXXX should be something else ofcourse
