I'm not trying to brag here. However, I want to rank for a competitive term. I'm almost there. I was thinking about getting a link from a site that already ranks high for the competitve term. The site would get 2 ad spots on the front page instead of one. My domain contains an exact keyphrase (no extra words) that I'm also targeting. Probably, all it needs is a link from top site to push it to the top. The term is so competitive that I don't think I will get to the front without cooperating with the top sites.
If you've got that many backinks, and your site is not ranking for your keyword, then that means your keyword is too competitive. Now, if you're only a page away from page 1, then don't forget strong bookmarks like Google bookmarks, Yahoo bookmarks, Digg. But if your pages aren't even in the top 20 pages, then your keyword is much too competitive. I recently found out that a Squidoo Lens I wrote six months ago wasn't even in the top 50 pages! You also have to keep in mind how well the pages are optimized for the top ten results: H1 tags, title tags, keyword density, etc. You don't know that without a proficient keyword tool. Another option you may want to entertain is free press releases for more backlink power. Don't go buck wild with press releases, either.
well i guess all those back links you have, been bought from someone.. the big G doesn't like that, thats why you are listed on the bottom line among search results
The backlinks were not bought. However, the site is less than a year old. It was on the 3rd page for the keyphrase (which is the same as the URL). My site is a .net However, now I don't see it on the 3rd page. But things could change next year after it gets a little age. It was registered around Dec 1, 2009.
