Hi friends, I was wondering if someone could explain if site wide links are good or bad for SEO? I have provided a site wide link to one of my site from another site but a bit worried if it penalizes the website in any way. Please advise. Thank you so much.
Well do you think a couple of hundred identical text links (anchor texts) look natural...from the same website? In my experience site wide gets the links ignored, you're best with 1 link on the home page of a relevant website that is good for your niche.
My 2 cents are: 1) I have never seen anyone that does site wide links sensibly (not having 50 different links at the footer all to different domains in the same C class IP range) suffering a penalty or getting banned from Google (I agree that it is just my experience and it doesn't mean it does not happen...) 2) I do see them as being of less value compared to links that are unique and placed somewhere with more contextual relevance e.g. content
Life is about balance and so should your inbound links. I do not see sitewides being bad if you have links from other sources, in content, forums, directories etc. Consider a web developer. They may put their link at the base of their clients websites. They do not get banned because of this. You may operate several sites and link between them. This will not get a penalty. Natural links are from a range of areas not just one.
