site: measures how many pages of your website have been indexed. link: measures how many people have linked to your website (how many backlinks). Although both are not very accurate. site: has a problem recently admitted by google, and link: only shows a select number of backlinks not all of them.

normally a site: and link: search will yield better results in MSN.

Thanks for response, well yea msn is showing 1337 results for link:.
Does my site PR depend on google LINK: ? or SITE: would be fine too ?
finally i have alot alot of back links but none is appearing in LINK:.
How long does google usually takes to find this LINK: thing or its only done when google revise its PR update ?
    Replies shall be appreciated.

pr is calculated from your backlinks (link:yoursite)

the reason why google is not showing your backlinks is because you probably have a new site. Google updates the backlinks once every month or few months (whenever they feel like doing it) but then still they only show a few of them.

They know about all (most) of your backlinks though.

I would not worry about it. PR does ot mean much it's just like a guidline.

Just keep on getting relevant backlinks and only link (back) to quality sites.
investigate the sites before you put a link on your site.

I've noticed how alot of people link with anything and everything, this in turn could be causing more harm than good. Always check out the linking site, if you do not like do not link simple. Make sure both sites are relevant to each other in some degree.

i submit to quite a few directories, but i aviod ones that have an "adult" category, am i right in doing this or does it not matter?

Am not holding my breath for googlebot's work on my site.
Here are my stats for my web site which is less than a couple of weeks old:
Googlebot in 8 days registered close to 50,000 hits:eek: (ie site pages indexed) going through the website. I had to ban googlebot in robots.txt and later ask.com as well. Now as for the pages indexed - I would not expect to have google list them as being available from my site. I have noticed that google compared to MSN and Yahoo takes longer to show all linked sites from your website.

If you want your pages to be spidered and indexed in Google quicker than they would be otherwise, then upload a list of pages to Google Sitemaps (it's in Google Webmaster Tools). If you haven't already signed up for a Googlemail account you'll need to register a username/password to use it.

link is the backlinks, other sites which link to you... site is the number of pages in which google has indexed of your site.

Backlinks measure popularity among other sites... Site measures how many of your pages show up in googles results.

Good point. In webmasters Tools you will be able to see all the actual pages google has found linking to your site.

One comment though, you don't need a gmail account to access webmasters tools. You only have to sign for a google account with any email you want.
