    Hi guys,

Working on a site where the blog posts have not been placed into a subcategory URL somehow

To Illustrate, the posts and regular pages are not silo'ed under "site.com/blog/posturl":
    examplesite.com/5-things-you-shouldknow
    examplesite.com/about
    examplesite.com/happynewyear2010
    examplesite.com/contact_us

Should I change the entire URL's architecture and set up 301 redirects? Or should I leave it alone and not chance impacting existing rankings?

    Thank you for your help!

    Thanks mrb!

The URL's are not under a blog category, that IS the problem from the point of google understanding the structure of the site. There is no single directory of the posts. It is literally, "website.com/post-title" and not "website.com/blog/post-title"

I'm going to assume you're using Wordpress, yes?

If that's the case then shift all of your blog posts to /blog/

    Leave the other stuff.

Set 301 redirects and check for broken internal links. Also check external links to preserve link equity.

If you're going to shift posts to /blog/ then look up how to track your content marketing efforts using page path level one tracking within Google Analytics.

I always strip out categories in my url's, it gets redundant. Shorter urls are better anyway.
