Site that measures number of searches?

I was looking for some kind of tool that would let me know how many times a particular keyword/phrase has been seached for. I want something more than seeing how many seach results.

I often read in articles when they talk about how a particular subject experiences a sharp increase in searches on the internet. Is there a site out there that can measure that?

    Thanks.

I've use that before. But trying to find some other places to compare it to.

Does anyone know of any other sites that measures searches?

I think what you might be looking for is Google Trends, this provides information on what topics are trending at the moment and search volume.

If you do your own search rather than clicking on the items from the front page you can find out some useful information. For example I did a search on the BBC and this shows me the trends over the past 6 years and what topics caused the trend highs along with data about the regions, cities and languages.

Google trends is a great tool with many options and filters. Google keyword tool external and SEOBook.com's keyword tool can be very helpful as well for determining the search density for keywords.
