I've created a site targeted campaign but I can't seem to get it to show any impressions. I've tried including all kinds of crappy little sites, big sites, both at the same time, but no luck. Is there some magic minimum CPM that I have to pay? Does anyone have experience getting their site targeted ads to show... if so, can you tell me the base price? PM me if you don't want to make it public.
Content network ads take 2~7 business days to get manually reviewed and approved regarding AdWords editorial guidelines. until there your ads will not receive a single impression.
yes, very true: when you edit a single letter of a text ad for example is the same of delete it an create a new one - it'll take a entire new week to run in content network.
A word of warning, site targeted campaigns burn money with little or no return. Unless you are building your brand I'd recommend sticking to the search network.
This is not so true. If you target the correct page, with the correct positioned pages with the right ads - you may pay cents per click and pay very low per conversion.
A lot of ifs there! The CPM model on site targeted campaigns means that you could be paying a lot of money for little or no clicks. I have found that approaching the site owner directly and paying a fixed fee for a banner ad is far cheaper.
Yeti, good advice on getting direct placement! Where is that solicitation forum, I've got to go make an offer... Of course, when it comes to bigger companies and smaller budgets it can be hard to make anything happen that way though. I've got a very low daily limit on my CPM spend... and I'm getting clicks on my campaign (as well as my keyword compaign). Basically, I want to make sure people know I'm going to be promoting the site... for the long haul, so they'll understand it is worth taking the time to enter their informaton even though it has a low PR right now (because it is only weeks old).
I run both keyword and site specific CPM ads equally. Here are a few tips I have found take make CPM ads worth while: 1) Ad placement - it is very important to be sure the ads are *not* showing at the very bottom of the site where it will be missed. In addition if you can target a site (or specific page) that has "inline" ads that is even better. 2) Site specific ad group. I have found by creating looking at the site and creating an ad is target at that site the click throughs are much higher. 3) In any adgroup I create several ads. Why? So they rotate so any given user might see a couple versions. 4) Site selection!!! I actually have several "trial campaigns" going at any given time. I set some nominal budget (under $10 if possible) to check out the site traffic. If it passes the ROI test I move it to the real set of targeteted CPM ads. Personally I have found the smaller sites work out better then the big mainstream sites. In my niche there are 3 huge sites that rotate google and other ads (google mainly on their forums) and in every case the CPM's are 4X and the results are less then half. I guess my point is you should "try it". I wold imagine every niche is different but if you ignore the possibility you might be be missing out =)
