    Danielle,

This has been a long debated issue. Many believe (including me) that you just need to secure good solid relative backlinks to your site and then be patient.

If I were you, I would use the following directories to submit to:

Yes... while you can submit to search engines, it isn't necessary (it won't hurt but it isn't needed)... they'll find you. If you prefer, there are really only three to worry about: Google, Yahoo, and MSNsearch -- each has a "submit URL" link if you think you'd rather manually submit.

With directories, as New Computer notes, it's a different situation. Use the link he provided or you'll find many more suggestions at this forum under "Directories".

search engine submission won't make any difference. they'll find your site and pages if you have lot of links from other sites that are crawled frequently.

I beg to differ. It makes a heck of a difference as it forces the SE's to begin a crawl much sooner. At least that is what I have seen.

Not necessarily...submission doesn't always bring the bots to your site. I've had a number of people tell me they were never indexed even after submitting directly. One link from a high PR site will bring the bots in much faster as well as help "push" them deeper into secondary pages.

Earlier this year I helped someone who had hired an SEO firm that promised search engine submissions. After AN ENTIRE YEAR of using their service, this poor soul still had 0 pagerank, 0 backlinks, and only his home page indexed in Google. His stats weren't much better in Yahoo either. I was flabbergasted that he spent a year paying this company and got zero results!!!

I was able to quickly remedy this by simply giving him a one way link from my site. :D

Of course the first thing those other scammers did was call him and say "Hey, you're finally showing up in the serps, isn't it great what we did for you?"

    Chumps! :p

    Danielle,

You should add some keyword links in your SIG here on the boards. This will really help you get indexed fast. You can set that up in your User CP.

Before you start flooding directories/search engines with your info think about what your goals are. In most cases using an automated service isn't going to help, and could potentially get your site blacklisted as many sites consider auto submission as spamming. Doing things by hand, developing inboind links from quality/authority sites is the best way to go.

Have you considered sending out a press release through PRweb.com? Have you tried to get a listing on DMOZ? Can you afford to pay for inclusion in the Yahoo directory?

Is your site even ready to be publicly listed yet?
(ie. no 'under construction' pages, frames layout, duplicate content, keyword stuffing, etc)

Just tossing some thoughts you way.

I doubt that it "forces" anything at all.

My best guess: Doesn't hurt. Doesn't help much.

DMOZ does accept submissions... they just don't do anything with them

ezhil, you might want to think about a different avatar... that one is trademarked/copyrighted and the owners have demonstrated an energetic willingeness to protect their ownership.

The signature with your url does wonders. When I post in general motorcycle forums I get traffic from there that is pretty good to my custom chopper and biker lifestyle forum. Of course if I could convert more into actual members...

To submit your site to all search engines , visit http://www.farishtaey.com

Checkout the banners there .BEWARE most submissions are to ffa sites .But If you choose CAREFULLY in the emails you recieve later , the traffic is sure .

Beware FFA sites are free for all sites and most of the times your site may get penalised if many links are found to FFA sites . Hence be careful .

if you are looking for a few webdirectories . Then visit my site and go to the search engine section . There is a site search engine . Try the word " webdirectory" . You can also search " all " . This will list all indexed pages .

DMOZ is slow . The reason is that no body is getting paid to do so . People join with high energy levels and then soon the interest is gone .. Although trust me , that one is high frequency index
    directory.

Easy, tuning... he/she is new here and by the looks of it going through the thread and replying as he/she goes...

However, I do agree it's going to quickly get to be irritating if it continues...

    Sorry minstrel,

Yep I think its getting irritating. Perhaps he/she is trying to get live links in posts. Anyway I deleted previous post.

    @www.farishtaey.com
You will get live links when you reach 10 posts. Don't worry. But please let us know what you are talking about.

No apology necessary, Tuning. I'm not "moderating" here. I was just pointing out that when you enter a thread and read something you want to reply to the tendency is to reply to that post. Then you go back and continue reading and find another you want to reply to and do it again. Possibly, that was what was going on in this case.

I do this myself in long threads and it doesn't always make sense to edit an old reply and pack it all into one... however, one of the problems in this case was that we couldn't tell what or who s/he was replying to, so it just looked like repeated spammy posts...
